The Regional Alliance conducts several events throughout the year for the purpose of recognizing significant accomplishments by our members or client organizations and to provide networking opportunities for members to meet key executives of prime contractors and other firms to explore business opportunities. Most events must be reserved in advance to assist with planning. RSVP can be through the below link or by calling the Regional Alliance at 212-268-2991. There is no charge for most training programs, workshops and seminars.  Payments for networking events, annual Charter Member dues and contributions may be sent to the Regional Alliance for Small Contractors, 625 8th Avenue, Second Floor, North Wing, New York, NY 10018. All checks must be made payable to: The Fund For the City of New York.

OSHA 10 HOUR Program

Port Authority Certified M/W/S/DBE or not

The 10-hour program is intended to provide a variety of construction safety and health training to construction workers, foremen, job supervisors, and anyone involved in the construction industry. OSHA recommends outreach training program courses as an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1926. Workers must receive additional training, when required by OSHA standards, on the specific hazards of the job. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an OSHA construction safety and health 10-hour course completion card from the U.S. Department of Labor. Training will emphasize: Hazard, Identification, Avoidance, Control and Prevention, Monitoring Project.

This innovative program sponsored by Port Authority will lead to a certificate in Construction Management and qualifies for 24 Continuing Education Units.

The objective of this program is to present & discuss the management of construction projects in the field. The coursework is designed for contractors, engineers, designers and others in the construction industry. The course covers the fundamentals of construction management which includes materials and methods, blueprint reading, construction cost and estimating, project scheduling & contract administration.
Participants MUST complete ALL FIVE classes to receive a certificate.

Microsoft Excel - Level 1

In this course participants will create and edit basic Microsoft Office Excel 2010 workbooks. Participants will learn the basic elements on how to create a worksheet and perform basic calculations using formulas and functions. Modifying, formatting, printing and managing an Excel worksheet will also be covered.

In this course, students will learn to calculate data with advanced formulas, organize worksheets and table data, present data using charts, analyze date using PivotTables, Slicers, and Pivot Charts. The course will progress to working with more advanced features of Excel such as entering functions, macros, formatting text and inserting graphic objects.

This two-day course (levels 1 and 2) provides an overview of Microsoft Project 2010 to help you manage projects more effectively.  It enables you to organize and filter your data, schedule tasks and resources, and produce accurate reports – all according to your changing information needs.  The course will cover from the project basics to managing resources and multiple projects.  Participants will learn how to outline tasks, edit and organize tasks, create task relationships, set constraints and deadlines, create a resource list, assign multiple resources, create project links, determine critical path, set interim plans and work with reports.

Participants will learn how to use the QB Navigator and menu bar to perform job accounting. Course covers how to record time and materials consumption of a job and summarize it into reports. You will also use the navigator to perform all aspects of basic bookkeeping.

This intensive workshop will expose participants to the skills of understanding and reading architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical construction drawings, and to coordinating the information represented by each type of drawing.  Participants will also learn how construction drawings are used to implement the construction process. They will gain an overview of construction drawing basics as well as thorough coverage of standard construction sequence; including site work, foundations, structural systems, and interior work and finishes.   The workshop will also be of interest to those working in construction, estimating, facilities management, or construction management.

Participants will learn to use major menu bar functions such as lists, activities, reports and help. Standard accounting transactions will be reviewed to create invoices, apply cash, issue purchase orders, write checks and issue credits. You will learn how to create standard reports and graphs, how to delete transactions and correct errors. Prior experience with Intuit Quickbooks is required.

This intensive workshop will expose participants to the resources necessary to learn how to estimate the construction costs of building projects, making use of modern technology and following the methods employed by successful general contractors.  The workshop is intended for the person who is beginning to learn the process of cost estimating in a construction organization.  The workshop will also be of interest to construction managers, supervisors, and practicing estimators who, from time to time, may wish to refer to a source of estimating data.

Managing Small Scale Construction Projects

Learn the process of developing a small scale or mixed use building project (5,000-10,000 square feet in size). Topics will cover how to assemble a project team; roles and responsibilities of the owner, architect, engineer, contractor, attorney, and lender; the RFQ and RFP process; hard and soft development cost; an overview of the project phases, including planning, pre -construction, design, construction administration, budgets, scheduling and the critical path, an overview of the municipal agency requirements; permits, certificate of occupancy, required insurances, and utility coordination. Focus is on managing the design and construction phase of the project.

This course is a comprehensive safety program designed for anyone involved in the construction industry.  The program provides complete information on OSHA compliance issues and is designed to help you recognize safety hazards on the job.
